Heroes Home GATE

We provide a healthy, home-like environment, where nearly 100 homeless veterans each year are able to escape the daily struggle for survival.

about heroes home gate

After his service in Vietnam, our founder, Brother Wayne White, had a special place in his heart for his fellow veterans. This led to his establishing a program to address Veteran homelessness in 2009. Today, our program provides homeless veterans with a short-term home, three nutritious meals per day and 24/7 staff supervision.

Besides basic food and shelter, residents receive a variety of support services. These services allow our Veterans to work toward securing permanent housing, investigate career options, and take advantage of the services available to them through the VA.

What Heroes Home Gate Does

The Heroes Home Gate program has successfully placed over 85% of those who have stayed with us into permanent housing.

Heroes Home Gate is a residential case management program where each Veteran receives one on one attention and care from a dedicated staff to help them reach their goals. In addition to providing safe, stable transitional housing and three warm meals a day, some of the things we do with Veterans include the following:

  • Help obtaining vital documents such as a birth certificate, DD214, social security card, state ID, or driver's license

  • Help finding employment

  • Assistance negotiating and paying off evictions, back rent, and past utility bills

  • Assistance applying for housing voucher programs like HCV (previously Section 8), HUDVASH, or Shelter Plus Care

  • Assistance finding and applying for affordable housing

  • Assistance with applying for service connected disability, SSI, or SSDI

  • Groups and activities

Support the Expansion Project for Veterans

Heroes Home Gate is finalizing a $7.6 million capital campaign to build a new 24-bed facility that will provide veterans a safe, supportive environment that will ignite positive change through love and outreach.

While our current facilities provide the ability to meet our Veteran's basic needs, we are challenged with many constraints, including sharing the building with other tenants, who can sometimes be a negative influence.

With the expansion project, we will elevate the quality of living for our Veterans and provide them with a more private and tranquil environment where they can focus on their long-term health.
